THE OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP - MATT COOPER AT ROYAL TROONMatt Cooper

Hello, this is Matt Cooper from Royal Troon and I'm speaking to you from the back of the first tee here on Wednesday morning. It's a very still morning on the whole but I think the wind's going to get up later on today and it should be up for most of the week.

Last night I had a chat with Henrik Stenson, who was the winner here of course at Royal Troon eight years ago and he was really interesting when he talked about the state of the course.

He'd played it a couple of times in practice so far this week and he said that the bolstering to the back nine suggested to him that if there is the typical wind which is into the players on the back nine, he thought 10-under would win the tournament this week. So he's expecting a much tougher challenge than he faced eight years ago, albeit he did play some of the greatest golf the tournament has ever seen.

It's also interesting that Martin Slumbers, who retires from his role at the head of the R&A this year, he was talking about the state of the course and he said that they have got it exactly where they want it and now that they have a confident weather forecast they're getting ready to make the course faster.

So I think all in all we're in for quite a severe links test. It can sometimes be a bit deceptive at Royal Troon because the winning totals are very low but the majority of the field struggle.

So as what Slumbers and Stenson say we can expect more of the same this year and hopefully we should be in for a good test although the latest weather forecast does indicate that there's going to be a lot of rain on Sunday.

Please gamble responsibly.
