Paul Robinson Previews New Year’s Day’s Clash Between Liverpool & Newcastle
I think when you look on paper, trying to build a bet and do it from stats and looking where both teams are at the moment, Newcastle’s away form is terrible and Liverpool’s home form is excellent. Newcastle have had injuries but the worry for Eddie Howe is that with the nucleus of the team that they had out against Forest, they should have had a better result. They had players back; they had a starting 11 that would compete at the top of the Premier League and that is competing in the Champions League.
Away from home, they've been really poor. You look at Newcastle's last results in all competitions. They lost to Forest, lost to Luton, lost to Chelsea, lost to AC Milan, lost to Spurs, with one win in there against a ten-man Fulham.
Liverpool with a very workmanlike performance at Burnley dominated the game, got the job done as you would expect them to do but draws against Arsenal and Man United at home games that they probably should have won. I think it's going to be a very, very familiar on New Year's Day at Anfield.
With Jota back as well, look at the front line. He took Nunez out of the team last week, then brought him back in, got his goal and there’s the bonus of Jota as well. But they are always susceptible and clean sheets are not their forte.
I fancy Liverpool to win 3-1.
That’s an 11/1 correct score.
