James Buttler looks ahead to the fifth weekend of Championship action and picks out the best bets, including a treble and scorer selections.
Plymouth v Sunderland
Top of the table Sunderland make the 800 mile round trip to Plymouth on Saturday and should make it five wins and maintain their 100% record. Wayne Rooney’s Plymouth have scored only two goals and are winless in four matches on 2 points and down in 22nd.
Regis LeBris has got the Black Cats purring with four wins and an aggregate score of 10-1 this season. The 4/5 on Sunderland to win isn’t a bad start, but let’s add in Romaine Mundle to score. The attacker is 2 goals in 2 matches and a Sunderland win with a Romaine Mundle goal is 9/2.
Middlesbrough v Preston
Preston’s surprising 1-0 home win against Luton a couple of rounds ago appears to have been a blip rather than a trend. They followed that with a 3-1 defeat at Oxford to make it just that solitary Luton victory in their last 9 Championship matches.
Boro are on 7 points and in 7th place in the embryonic table and they’ve been solid if uninspiring. They are a team that tend to get the job done under Michael Carrick, and the likelihood is they’ll be in promotion contention in May, but they rarely go to town in the goal scoring department.
Emmanuel Latte Lath scored on the opening day of the season and is too good to go too many more matches without notching again. I’m tempted to tip Boro to win and under 2.5 match goals at 11/4, but I’ve opted to back Boro to win and Emmanuel Latte Lath to score at 9/5, mainly because I trust him more than I trust Preston’s back line.
Derby County v Cardiff City
Derby are not vintage Brazil, but Cardiff are playing more like the early days Faroe islands. The Rams have won both home matches, the last being an impressive 3-0 win over Bristol City. Cardiff are 1 goal to the good and 10 against and have picked up one point in the Welsh derby with Swansea. This should be one way traffic and Kayden Jackson has scored in both of Derby’s home wins. Derby to win with Kayden Jackson scoring again is a 9/2 shot.
James Championship Tips
• Sunderland to win and Romaine Mundle to score at 9/2
• Middlesbrough to win and Emmanuel Latte Lath to score at 9/5
• Derby to win and Kayden Jackson to score at 9/2
You can obviously back those individually, roll them into a treble at 84.7/1, but as always, please gamble responsibly.
