Luke Hodges dials in from Down Under for his betting preview of the 2024 AFL Grand Final. Katy Perry’s on stage before the big game gets going but will there be Fireworks from the Sydney Swans or will the Brisbane Lions Roar?
This is big. There’s an expected crowd of over 100,000 people at the MCG for the Grand Final. It's that big. The two teams are the Sydney Swans and - sadly, from my perspective - the Brisbane Lions.
So how did they get there? Sydney Swans have been the best team all season. They did it easy against Port Adelaide at the SCG last week by 36 points. Our treble almost got up as well. We had Sydney winning, Isaac Heeney with a goal and 25 touches. Sydney did win, Isaac Heaney kicked TWO goals but we JUST missed out. He had 24(!) disposals...then he spent the last five minutes on the bench. You’ve got to rest those stars for the Grand Final, haven’t you? But nonetheless, Sydney made it.
Their opponents are Brisbane Lions, who – it’s hard for me to say this - won by ten points against my Geelong Cats. I still haven't recovered. But again, Brisbane are through.
So Sydney Swans versus Brisbane Lions at the MCG. All Grand Finals are at the MCG. Sydney are slight favourites at 3/4 over Brisbane, who are 11/10.
Right, my tips for the week. The headline is, “Warner runs right at the MCG”. No, not David Warner - that's been a headline in Australia for the last ten years - but I think Chad Warner, (no relation) of the Sydney Swans will have a big game.
So, my treble is:
• Chad Warner to have 30 touches
• Sydney Swans to win by 20 points or more
• 140 points scored by both teams combined
That’s a 20/1 shot.
