Gavin Puszczalowskyi looks ahead to the Formula 1 race this weekend.
Round 17 of the Formula 1 season takes us to a street circuit in Azerbaijan, where F1 engineers have the balancing act of setting up a F1 car with the required downforce for the tight corners of the Baku street circuit, mixed with the low drag needed for the 2.2 kilometre long straight that dominates the final section of the track.
Sergio Perez is the most successful driver here with 2 wins, Red Bull are the most successful manufacturer here, with 4 wins in the 6 races.
Both are in a bit of a slump.
Ferrari claimed the win with Leclerc winning the race last time in Italy. They brought an upgrade to the car in the final race in Europe and clearly it worked well. Are they play to repeat that win? Leclerc is 5/1 to win in most places, Sainz is a massive 10/1 to win. Both are more tempting than the 6/5 on Lando Norris to win. Norris was that price to win in Italy and he finished 3rd. I personally would have a dabble on Leclerc to win, and Piastri at 11/2.
I’ve just realised I’ve not even mentioned Verstappen yet. How times have changed.
Piastri pole??
I’m backing the two McLarens to do well in qualifying. Norris is 13/8 at Paddy Power to qualify pole with Piastri, same car essentially, 5/1 to stick his McLaren on pole. I’m picking either one of them.
And there is no other market that really appeals to me apart from a special at SkyBet, which is Hamilton, Russell, and Norris to all finish in the top 6, which is 11/10.
Slim pickings this weekend for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
