Dave Tindall looks ahead to Sunday's Premier League action and picks out his best bets in the games involving both Manchester City and Liverpool.
Wolves v Man City
Manchester City, who travel to Wolves in Sunday's early game, haven’t quite hit full speed this season but the fact remains that they’re unbeaten in 11 matches, winning seven of those.
For now, the season-long loss of Rodri isn’t having a huge effect in terms of basic results but it does make them more fragile and that’s showing up by the lack of clean sheets.
Pep’s men have conceded five in their last three Premier League games since Rodri suffered his injury and that looks to give us a way in.
Wolves prop up the table and are clearly struggling but they have managed nine top-flight goals. No-one in the bottom eight has managed more.
So although City should win this, it looks a much smarter play to back Man City to win and Both teams to Score at 8/5 rather than just the basic City win which is very short at 1/3.
Wolves have conceded a league-worst 21 goals in their seven matches and that’s an average of three a game for all you GCSE maths buffs.
In other words, there’s plenty of scope to back some Man City goalscorers.
Erling Haaland’s 4/6 isn’t too bad but I like the 7/2 about Jack Grealish, who looks to be finding his feet again.
The England wideman has scored twice for England in the Nations League this season and is due one for Man City. Back him at 7/2 to find the net at Molineux.
Liverpool v Chelsea
History suggests Liverpool and Chelsea will slug it out for 90 minutes at Anfield on Sunday and we still won’t have a winner.
Eight of the last nine meetings finished level at full-time and, remarkably, five of the last six ended 0-0.
There will be no extra-time or a penalty shootout to get Liverpool over the line this time and can we really put too much weight in history given that both teams have brand new managers.
Enzo Maresca’s current Chelsea might have fancied themselves against Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.
But Arne Slot’s Reds look more robust in midfield and less susceptible to counter-attacks which is clearly Chelsea’s strength.
Somewhat unusually both teams are 100% on the road this season but have suffered losses at home.
Liverpool’s came against a low-block Forest side but Chelsea will give them more room.
It’s likely to be tight but I’m just going to give Liverpool the edge and I’ll do that by heading to the Winning Margin market.
And there we’ll find the option of LIverpool to win by 1 Goal which is a 3/1 chance.
Who might find the net?
Looking at the usual suspects we have Mo Salah at 27/20, Luis Diaz at 21/10, Cole Palmer at 11/4 and Nicolas Jackson at 3/1.
All are options but I’m tempted by a couple of Liverpool defenders.
Trent Alexander-Arnold’s future at Anfield remains in doubt but his performances haven’t dipped and the Scouser fired in a brilliant free-kick for England last weekend.
Trent to score is 8/1.
And how about Virgil van Dijk to score anytime at 10/1.
The big Dutchman headed the winner against the Blues in the Carabao Cup final last February and Chelsea aren’t too convincing at the back.
Van Dijk has already nodded one in for Liverpool in the Champions League this season, that goal coming against Milan in the San Siro.
Dave's Premier League Tips
Man City to beat Wolves and Both teams to Score at 8/5
Jack Grealish to score v Wolves at 7/2
Liverpool to beat Chelsea by a 1 Goal margin at 3/1
Trent Alexander-Arnold to score anytime at 8/1
Virgil van Dijk to score anytime at 10/1
