The Dutch are finally flying and meet a Turkey side who have the momentum from a fine win over Austria. David Easson predicts the goals may well flow...
This match has all the signs of either game of the tournament or the dullest, poorest 0-0 of all.
I haven’t really rated the Dutch from the start because they do have the propensity to bore the pants off you. Missing chance after chance is not fun – then it’s a lot of fun – then it gets boring again. At least against Romania they put a few away. The Turks are an absolute riot, sometime literally. The attacking play, the lung-busting runs, the fans being sensational. It all makes for a joy to behold, but can they keep their nerve in the really big games? Where were the leaders when Austria were pushing late on – and really should have equalised and gone on to win it? That’s my fear, but for the time being just enjoy them. They will score.
Romania were given enough of a hint by the Dutch but you got the feeling they didn’t quite believe. The Dutch will score too, eventually, with Gakpo proving a standout player who should return to the Premier League as one of Liverpool’s front-line strikers under Arne Slot.
Turkey finished level on points with Portugal in the group and cannot be ruled out. Over 2.5 goals has landed in 7 of their last 10 matches, but they’ve lost 7 of their last 11. A true enigma.
So you can see I’m going with the Dutch and goals.
I think there’s value in over 3.5 goals at 2/1
Netherlands to win and over 2.5 goals is 7/5
The Dutch and both to score my favourite at 5/2
