National League and FA Trophy Picks – Saturday 10th February 2024
I'm Tom Feeney and these are my National League and FA Trophy fifth round picks, so really interesting what's happening this weekend.
So looking first of all at the National League a game that I'm gonna pick is Southend United against York City, now Southend, seem to have real momentum off the pitch for the first time in a long time, but it has to be said the last few results have been frustrating.
They currently find themselves just two points above the relegation zone and that's where York City are as well. This is 17th against 18th or for this game in particular I think it's Southend with the big home support who will be able to gain all three points, which will be a magnificent boost for the side as they look to move further away from any potential relegation trouble.
Selection – Southend United Win
Well, the televised game this weekend is Woking going up against Hartlepool United and when the league season got underway, both teams would have been expecting to be in and around those top seven places simply put it's not gone that way so far.
Both have made managerial changes and there's been good reason for those changes as well. Woking got a big win on Tuesday night that moved them out of the relegation zone while Hartlepool United find themselves seven points off the top seven places with Kevin Phillips now in charge.
In terms of this game, I think it's going to be really tight. In fact, I could see this being a draw. I do feel there won't be too much between either side.
Selection – Woking v Hartlepool - Draw
Now looking at the FA Trophy and with some of the big hitters already out of the competition, there's that real possibility that there will be a shock in terms of who actually gets to Wembley in a few months time, well, the first game I'm going to look at is Bromley going up against Aveley. For Bromley they are currently the side who are best placed in this competition, they're second in the National League table and they've had a fine run at home as well, though they did have a disappointing result last week and I think that they will be going through beating the National League South side.
Selection – Bromley Win
It's also a lengthy trip to Gateshead as they are away at Hereford
For Hereford their home form has been impressive and they get big attendances every time, that will happen once again and I do think it's going to be the National League North outfit who are able to progress going through to the next round of the competition, though I do feel that both sides have good attacking talent and that both teams to score really is the sensible bet.
Selection – Hereford to win and Both Teams To Score
Well, it's going to be really interesting to see what happens in both the National League and the fifth round of the FA Trophy this weekend with plenty of action to take place.
