West Ham's Cup Hopes Against Liverpool

Looking at Liverpool against West Ham in the Carabao Cup quarter final on Wednesday evening, and with Manchester City and Arsenal both out of the Cup already, West Ham putting pay to Arsenal’s hopes in the last round, whoever comes through at Anfield on Wednesday evening will really fancy their chances of lifting the first meaningful silverware of this English football season.



Anfield is a tremendously hard place to go. Liverpool’s record at home is exceptional, their last defeat in the Premier League was against Leeds United last season, and even though they were a little bit disappointing against Manchester United at the weekend, they weren’t beaten – 0-0 was the final result.



West Ham put in a tremendous performance, 3-0 win against Wolves at the weekend, with Mohammed Kudus with two goals and Jarod Bowen scoring the third. So, three wins in four games in all competitions for West Ham means they go to Anfield with a degree of confidence.



Liverpool are unbeaten at Anfield so far this season and their last defeat in competitive action was in February against Real Madrid, when they lost 5-2.

West Ham are going to have their work cut out if they going to make the semifinals of the Carabao Cup as Liverpool don't just win, they score goals as well. Other than that stalemate against Manchester United, four goals against Fulham, four against LASK, three against Brentford, three against Nottingham Forest, and five against Toulose, they know how to send their opponents away from Liverpool with absolutely nothing.



West Ham do have a knack these days, under David Moyes, of finding something a little bit extra in the cup competitions. Obviously, European success for them last season was a big high for the club, and they put out Arsenal in the last round, but the big question is can they trouble this Liverpool side?



I think West Ham score. Kudus and Bowen are the likely scorers for the Hammers, and maybe that’s the best betting way into this one, because Liverpool at around 1/3 to win are not going to make you rich (always gamble responsibly).

Another one Is Mohammed Salah to score (his home record is exceptional), Virgil van Dyke and Nayef Aguerd Both To Be Carded at 35/1.



Liverpool may just ring the changes a little bit as it’s a long season and Jurgen Klopp is always moaning about how much they have to play. Ryan Gravenberch is likely to miss this game after a a hamstring injury picked up against Manchester United. Harvey Elliott is likely to start and Kelleher, Quansah and Gakpo are likely to feature.



West Ham can find the back of the net, I think Liverpool win, so Liverpool to win and both teams to score is 8/5. That is a way of finding a little bit more value on the home side on Wednesday evening.
